THE ARTIST
Based in Perth, Western Australia, Rachelle graduated in 2012 with a BFA (Hons) from the University of Western Australia and again in 2021 with her Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning Higher Education, and studied drawing in 2018 at the New York Academy of Art Summer Workshop Series. Rachelle’s studio is located at Goolugatup Heathcote Precinct where she works on private commissions and runs The Painting School. Rachelle is a current board member of the Mandorla Art Award, acting as secretary and part of the social media team.
Rachelle was a finalist in the 2023 Kennedy Art Prize (SA) and the 2021 Kilgour Prize at the Newcastle Art Gallery. Rachelle has won tenders for multiple Percent For Art Scheme projects, including a large scale mural for Faith Community Church’s new facility in 2018, eight life sized Catholic Saint portraits for Emmanuel Catholic College’s chapel building redevelopment in 2021, and artwork on perforated metal screens for the primary school redevelopment of Providence Christian College in 2022.
Rachelle held her first Solo Exhibition Beauty in the Particular (2013) in Perth’s CBD. Her artistic flair has seen her branch out to many different sectors of the art world. Rachelle has been part in multiple group shows across Australia, and intends to further her practice in Visual Arts to bring greater support to the global arts community.
Rachelle was the recipient of a scholarship to The Art Academy (2014), South Australia, working under the guidance of Australian artist Robin Eley. In 2017 Rachelle assisted Robin in Los Angeles as an Artist in Residence, aiding Robin in preparation for his Solo Exhibition The Binary Project, 2017, at Gallery 101 Exhibit in West Hollywood. Rachelle has completed short courses with NYAA senior art critic Vincent Desideiro on his Australian tour Masterclass in Painting in 2017, and at the New York Academy of Art in Tribeca NYC in figurative drawing with artist Roberto Osti.
In 2019 Rachelle launched The Artist Path; a global creative event series seeking to answer commons questions surrounding the path of an artist’s career. The series ran in Perth, Western Australia, and Nashville, Tennessee.
Rachelle has created portrait works of influential Australian creatives and entrepreneurs such as Daniel Flynn, Jarrad Seng, Pippa McManus and Andrew Frazer. Rachelle’s work below in the private collection of figures such as With Architecture Founder Geoff Warn and MD Jane Wetherall, West Coast Eagles Captain Luke Shuey, Former Deputy Premier and Current Member for Scarborough Liza Harvey, former WASO director Mark Coughlan, former Member of Bateman Matt Taylor.
Under her tutelage, Rachelle’s students have been selected for international programs such as UCLA painting summer schools, and been finalists and winners in The Lester Prize Youth Award 2023, 2020 and 2019, Shaun Tan Young Artist Award 2017 and 2018. Rachelle has taught art incursions in over forty schools across Western Australia, and worked as an Art Instructor at UWA (2014- 2015). Rachelle has run workshops with Watoto International Uganda, Workshops AUS, Jacksons Drawing Supplies, and Awesome Arts Regional Residency Program.
