January Portrait Workshop
Join my immersive 4-day oil painting workshop this January 2027 in Applecross; from foundations to a complete portrait.

Unlock the foundations of oil painting in this immersive four-day workshop with artist Rachelle Dusting, founder of The Painting School, Applecross. Designed for beginners and intermediates, this workshop will guide you through the complete process of constructing a portrait from a photograph—covering essential principles of composition, value, colour theory and brushwork.
In this hands-on experience, you will:
• Learn foundational techniques of oil painting, from underpainting to final layers
• Understand light and shadow to create a life-like portrait
• Discover colour mixing for realistic skin tones and textures
• Receive step-by-step guidance from start to finish in an intimate workshop environment
• Leave with a completed oil portrait ready to frame!

• A comprehensive materials list will be provided upon booking confirmation. Paints provided.
• Light lunch and refreshments supplied each day
• Individualised feedback in an intimate group setting
